June 9, 2026 - Attributable to Erik Haas, Worldwide Vice President of Litigation, Johnson & Johnson:
“We will immediately appeal this verdict, which is irreconcilable with decades of scientific studies that prove that Johnson’s Baby Powder is safe, does not contain asbestos and does not cause cancer. The verdict also is refuted by the record, which showed the true cause of plaintiff’s harm was not talc. And the verdict is contrary to the results rendered by the majority of juries who have heard the talc claims and ruled in Johnson & Johnson’s favor—including two juries who returned defense verdicts within the last two weeks.
“Indeed, in this very case, the judge ruled that punitive damages were not supported by the evidentiary record, which we will demonstrate on appeal, likewise proscribes any other award.”
“For far too long, juries have been misled by plaintiff lawyers advancing junk science that they manufactured to gin-up jackpot verdicts to line their own pockets. We have exposed this plaintiff lawyer playbook, including via litigation against so-called plaintiff ‘experts’ who have authored fraudulent medical articles asserting that talc causes cancer. (More on these cases here and here.)
“Courts have agreed with us, disqualifying a leading plaintiffs’ firm, Beasley Allen, for egregious and unethical conduct that put its own financial interests ahead of its clients.
“We will keep fighting these unfounded allegations, and we expect an appellate court will once again agree with us.”
